## Sustainability story

Alpine Start was created to fuel adventures in the outdoors, and we strongly believe that it is our responsibility to protect the wild places we love from climate change. Not only does it threaten the pristine beauty of the mountains, but also the delicate balance of the high-altitude ecosystems where our coffee grows. We partnered with 1% for the Planet and Protect Our Winters (POW) early on and have worked to introduce more sustainable packaging solutions by using recycled materials and offering more bulk sized options. We plan to use more ecofriendly materials moving forward. Now, our next step is targeting our carbon footprint through our commitment to Climate Neutral. As we grow, we will always be looking for ways to reduce our impact.

## Reduction plans

### Reduction action plans
- **Scope 3** — We plan to reduce emissions from the transportation of all products and office supplies to our HQ used in DTC fulfillment and general operations by implementing quarterly ordering by forecasting product and office supply needs for upcoming periods. (source: Upstream shipping, target: Q3 2023, completion: 75%)
- **Scope 2** — We plan to reduce emissions from the electricity used to power our headquarters by implementing an energy management system at our office with policies for lights, office equipment, and appliances. (source: Electricity, target: Q3 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Transition at least 1 of our 3 SUP products with packaging composed of non recyclable plastic to biodegradable SUP pouches (or, alternatively recyclable SUP pouches) across all sales channels. (source: Packaging, target: Q1 2025, completion: 10%)
- **Scope 3** — Transition from non recyclable shipping mailers to 100% biodegradable shipping mailers across orders made on our website. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q1 2024, completion: 25%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce employee commuting emissions by 25% for our Colorado employees by incentivizing biking/walking to work and giving them the option to work from home. (source: Employee commuting, target: Q3 2025, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce our upstream transportation by 25% by consolidating raw material orders, placing fewer material orders each year that can cover needs for longer time periods. (source: Upstream shipping, target: Q1 2026, completion: 0%)
