## Sustainability story

We have been working to increase the carbon in our clay soils since 2012. We farm using no-till practices with both our protea flowers and wine grapes. Using mulch, vegan compost, and rotating cover crops has allowed us to forgo fertilizer application now that our carbon % is nearing 2%. Building soil carbon takes patience as it is a slow process and we realized that we needed broader and more immediate goals to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. Change Climate Project Certification holds us accountable each year. Additionally, their expertise in identifying quality carbon credits is valuable for small companies like ours.

## Emissions (2024)

**Methodology:** Botanica Wines's inventory uses spending data to estimate GHG emissions. Botanica Wines attests to the accuracy of their data inputs and the Change Climate Project team reviews the submission for compliance with the Standard.

- We commit to reducing 2023 Scope 1 & 2 emissions 50% by 2030 (completion: 0%)

### Reduction action plans
- **Scope 2** — We will install a solar energy system with annual production of 55.68MWh to power 100% of our current electricity needs for our entire operation (farming, hotel and wine storage) and purchase a 100kWh lithium battery back up power. (source: Electricity, target: Q2 2024, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Redesign glass bottles across all wine brands to reduce product weight by 33%. (source: Packaging, target: Q1 2025, completion: 100%)
