## Sustainability story

Ever since BRUNA was born, by a chance discovery on the island of Tahiti, we’ve dedicated ourselves to designing exceptional jewelry that complements nature’s beauty and diversity.

BRUNA’s story began when our founder discovered rare Keshi pearls during her travels through the French Polynesian islands. These unique, natural pearls are considered a by-product in pearl farming’s search for perfection, which just didn’t seem right to her.

This discovery of something so beautiful that was unfairly destined to be thrown away sparked a unique idea. A small bag of pearls and a whole lot of inspiration later, BRUNA was to become the answer to her endless search for conscious, long-lasting jewelry.

## Emissions (2026)

**Methodology:** Bruna's emissions inventory uses a mix of spending and activity-based data. Bruna attests to the accuracy of their data inputs and the Change Climate team reviews the submission for compliance with the Standard.

- Scope 1: 5 tCO2e
- Scope 2 (location-based): 5 tCO2e
- Scope 2 (market-based): 5 tCO2e
- Scope 3 (location-based): 886 tCO2e
- Scope 3 (market-based): 886 tCO2e
- **Total (location-based): 897 tCO2e**

## Reduction plans

### Science-aligned targets
- We commit to reducing 2021 Scope 1 and 2 emissions 50% by 2030. (completion: 0%)
- We commit to reducing 2022 Scope 3 emissions intensity by cutting the amount of carbon per jewelry piece 52% by 2030. (completion: 0%)

### Reduction action plans
- **Scope 3** — We will introduce a closed loop / circularity into our supply chain. We'll reduce the amount of recycled precious metals we buy from our conflict-free smelter, as we will melt down unwanted preowned jewellery from our customers ourselves. (source: Raw materials, target: Q3 2022, completion: 60%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to exchange our currently used recycled polybags, in which each piece of jewellery is packed in our factory and sent to our logistics warehouse, with plantbased, compostable bags. (source: Packaging, target: Q4 2021, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to offer a minimal waste packaging option at our checkout section on the website and provide customers the choice to get their order (up to 3 pieces) delivered in one jewellery box, instead of several jewellery boxes. (source: Packaging, target: Q1 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to introduce a repair opportunity as the first step of our circularity approach. (source: Product end-of-life, target: Q1 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We prepare for a B corp certification to have our performance validated by an external third party. (source: Raw materials, target: Q3 2023, completion: 60%)
- **Scope 3** — We will reduce the weight of our shipping boxes by 50% by creating a smaller shipping box for small orders (e.g. for customer buying 1-2 jewerly pieces). (source: Packaging, target: Q2 2024, completion: 30%)
- **Scope 3** — Prevent risk of deforestation in our supply chains by obtaining the FSC Chain of Custody certification for our packaging. (source: Packaging, target: Q4 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Transition all our packaging materials (paper, cotton) to recycled, organic, or other low-impact alternatives across all jewelry boxes. (source: Packaging, target: Q2 2024, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Implement a policy for low-carbon business travel to reduce scope 3.6 emissions by 10% for the BRUNA team. (source: Business travel, target: Q2 2024, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Optimize our warehouse strategy to reduce shipping distances to customers, thereby decreasing our Scope 3.9 emissions per shipment in key markets by 10% per shipment. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q1 2026, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — We will cut by 30% international shipping emissions linked to jewelry returns through our recently launched local repair, re-plating, resizing services. (source: Upstream shipping, target: 2025, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We will reduce packaging for 2- and 3-item orders, which will be delivered to customers in a single jewelry box, thereby reducing GHG emissions linked to the production of jewelry boxes and weight of packaging by at least 25%. (source: Downstream shipping, target: 2025, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Improve demand planning to better align production with actual demand, avoiding overproduction, unsold inventory, and reducing emissions linked to upstream shipments by 15%. (source: Upstream shipping, target: 2026, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce product return rates to below 10% through improved sizing guidance, product information, and customer communication, lowering emissions from reverse logistics and new shipments, including transport, handling, and repackaging. (source: Downstream shipping, target: 2026, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — Launch a packaging take-back program at our Vienna store (goal: 10% of Vienna-based customers participating) to reduce new jewelry box production and lower emissions from packaging manufacturing and transport. (source: Packaging, target: 2026, completion: 0%)
