## Sustainability story

At Klean Kanteen, we live our mission of creating a safer, healthier planet through the products we make and how we do business. Since 2004, Klean has been creating reusable food and drinkware made from safe, durable 18/8 stainless steel so people can enjoy their favorite food and drink on-the-go without single-use waste. Since 2012, Klean has been a certified B Corporation, meeting rigorous standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. We’ve poured over $4.3 MM dollars into environmental causes as a member of 1% for the Planet. And since 2020, our Climate Neutral certification has been a catalyst to drawdown our greenhouse gas emissions and support a just transition to a clean energy economy.

## Emissions (2025)

**Methodology:** Klean Kanteen's emissions inventory uses a mix of spending and activity-based data. Klean Kanteen attests to the accuracy of their data inputs and the Change Climate team reviews the submission for compliance with the Standard.

## Reduction plans

### Science-aligned targets
- We commit to reducing 2016 Scope 1 and 2 emissions 59% by 2030. (completion: 88%)
- We commit to reducing 2019 Scope 3 emissions by 30% by 2030. (completion: 50%)

### Reduction action plans
- **Scope 1** — Reduce energy use at Klean HQ by implementing energy conservation measures, improving efficiency of print operations, and / or replacing or modifying equipment to run on electricity instead of propane or natural gas. (source: Energy at offices or controlled facilities, target: Q4 2022, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce emissions from business travel by implementing company guidelines around when to travel and how to minimize emissions while traveling. (source: Business travel, target: Q4 2022, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Work with suppliers to reach 100% of electricity used by Tier 1 suppliers for Klean product manufacturing will be generated onsite by, or procured from offsite, low-impact renewable electricity sources. (source: Supply chain energy use, target: Q4 2022, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to reduce GHG emissions associated with product raw materials by 40-50% by sourcing stainless steel made with 90% recycled content for 95% of Klean products (source: Raw materials, target: Q4 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Develop and train Klean employees on guidelines for low-to-no emission business travel (source: Business travel, target: Q1 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce emissions from packaging by switching from product boxes to bellybands in the Asia Pacific region. (source: Packaging, target: Q2 2021, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce emissions from materials for bellybands, hangtags and inserts by changing to 100% certified recycled content. (source: Packaging, target: Q1 2020, completion: 50%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce emissions from electricity consumed in manufacturing by sourcing 25% of electricity from onsite solar % of electricity used in manufacturing generated from onsite solar. (source: Supply chain energy use, target: Q2 2020, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Work with suppliers to reach 100% clean, renewable electricity (onsite and/or purchased) in place for manufacturing electricity use by Tier 2 suppliers. (source: Supply chain energy use, target: Q4 2024, completion: 5%)
- **Scope 3** — Move to have 100% clean, renewable electricity in place (onsite and/or purchased) for production of stainless steel used in Klean products. (source: Supply chain energy use, target: Q4 2024, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — We will create a clean electricity standard that guides suppliers through criteria and steps to generate and / or procure 100% of the electricity used in manufacturing Klean Kanteen products from clean, low-impact renewable sources. (source: Supply chain energy use, target: Q3 2025, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We will engage all tier 1 suppliers in planning and implementation of Klean's new supplier clean electricity standard to incorporate 100% clean, low-impact, renewable electricity in their manufacturing of Klean Kanteen products. (source: Supply chain energy use, target: Q4 2025, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 2** — We will implement a procedure for monitoring the onsite solar array performance to avoid extended down time and unnecessary use of grid electricity. (source: Electricity, target: 2026, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce total business travel for all employees by encouraging virtual meetings (source: Business travel, target: 2026, completion: 0%)
