## Sustainability story

At Open Water, our mission is to offer the most sustainable bottled water option available. While tap water is the most environmentally friendly choice, many people still rely on bottled water, leading to millions of plastic bottles polluting our oceans daily. We believe that small changes can make a big impact, which is why we were the first to introduce aluminum bottles and cans, the most recycled beverage packaging globally. Our focus on end-of-life impact ensures that our products offer the best environmental prospects, surpassing alternatives like rPET and cartons. By becoming Climate Neutral, we are committed to offering a product that is sustainable at every stage of its lifecycle.

## Emissions (2024)

**Methodology:** Open Water's emissions inventory uses a mix of spending and activity-based data. Open Water attests to the accuracy of their data inputs and the Change Climate team reviews the submission for compliance with the Standard.

- Scope 1: 1 tCO2e
- Scope 2 (location-based): 0 tCO2e
- Scope 2 (market-based): 6 tCO2e
- Scope 3 (location-based): 0 tCO2e
- Scope 3 (market-based): 6,508 tCO2e
- **Total (location-based): 0 tCO2e**
- **Total (market-based): 6,515 tCO2e**

**Emissions intensity:** Per unit of product — unit of product

## Reduction plans

### Reduction action plans
- **Scope 3** — We plan to reduce emissions from downstream shipping by opening at least 1 additional fulfillment warehouse closer to our end customers. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q1 2022, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to reduce emissions created during the manufacturing of our bottles and cans (source: Supply chain energy use, target: Q4 2021, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to reduce emissions from shipping to our wholesale customers by optimizing shipping through aggregating orders in a single shipment. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q3 2022, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to reduce emissions from shipping to our wholesale customers by opening another warehouse closer to end users. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q3 2022, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce FTL & LTL emissions by opening additional warehouse(s) near high volume areas. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q4 2020, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce FTL & LTL emissions by opening a CA production facility. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q3 2020, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce company HQ waste by switching to reusable water bottles and water filters (source: Operational waste, target: Q2 2020, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We will set up and begin operations with another filling facility to produce our bottled water by Q4 2024. The new facility location will allow us to produce our product closer to our consumers and thus significantly reduce the shipping distances. (source: Upstream shipping, target: Q4 2024, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We will open and run one additional warehouse (a facility in which we store our products) in Maryland so that we ship our products more efficiently to customer base in the New York metro area. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q4 2024, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — We will eliminate the need for plastic wrap on our bottle trays (24-pack) at our East Coast filing facility by transitioning to a fully enclosed cardboard carton made with recycled materials, and avoiding 7,800 kilograms of plastic wrap over 12 months. (source: Packaging, target: Q4 2025, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — We will open a filing facility for our 12oz cans on the West Coast, which will significantly reduce the product miles travels for 30% of all of our 12oz can production. (source: Downstream shipping, target: Q2 2026, completion: 0%)
