## Sustainability story

P.F. Candle Co. is a home fragrance company from Los Angeles. Sustainability at P.F. started in 2008, when the brand was founded as an Etsy shop, repurposing discarded items like spent pizzeria candles and old books into new items. Since inception, sustainability has been a core value of how we run our business, and our commitment has only grown through our Climate Neutral certification. P.F. prioritizes using renewable materials (like soy wax), limiting excess packaging, and seeking out green energy to power our facilities. The choice to use soy wax instead of paraffin reduces our carbon footprint by thousands of tonnes. We encourage our employees to make sustainable choices by providing fully subsidized modes of transportation like a free metro pass and have composting at each facility. We give back to organizations annually that support the environment and environmental justice causes.

## Emissions (2024)

**Methodology:** P.F. Candle Co.'s emissions inventory uses a mix of spending and activity-based data. P.F. Candle Co. attests to the accuracy of their data inputs and the Change Climate team reviews the submission for compliance with the Standard.

## Reduction plans

### Reduction action plans
- **Scope 3** — Reduce the amount of paper-based materials used in wholesale packaging and in turn reduce our shipping and storage footprint for those orders. (source: Packaging, target: Q4 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 2** — We plan to reduce our electricity usage as a company by 10%. (source: Electricity, target: Q1 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We plan to reduce employee single rider vehicle commuting by 25%. (source: Employee commuting, target: Q2 2024, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We will be working with our new packaging vendor to redesign smaller the wholesale packaging for our re-launch of our mini candle size. We haven't had this product in stock for awhile and want to bring it back with a smaller footprint. (source: Packaging, target: Q2 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — We are redesigning the packaging smaller for our e-commerce and wholesale reed diffusers. Notoriously large packaging to fit the reed sticks has made this a historically difficult redesign as well as taken up far too much space. (source: Packaging, target: Q2 2023, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 1** — Implement energy conservation measures to reduce consumption 10% by streamlining shift schedule and setting thermostat temperatures in our Commerce, CA warehouse. (source: Energy at offices or controlled facilities, target: Q1 2025, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Transition 10% of candles in glass containers to no containers across all candle lines. (source: Raw materials, target: Q2 2025, completion: 10%)
- **Scope 3** — Implement a policy for low-carbon business travel to reduce our travel emissions for 10% for all employees. (source: Business travel, target: Q2 2026, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — Implement a low carbon sourcing/purchasing policy to reduce our transit emissions on raw materials by 10% across all containers. (source: Upstream shipping, target: Q2 2026, completion: 0%)
