About Climate Neutral Certification

Wherever you see the Climate Neutral Certified label, it means the company is accountable for its greenhouse gas emissions. To earn the label, a company must annually measure cradle-to-customer emissions, implement specific action plans to reduce emissions, and invest in high quality, verified carbon credits.

The certification requirements are detailed in the rigorous, peer-reviewed Climate Neutral Certified Standard. Each company’s application is reviewed for compliance by Change Climate’s certification team.

REI is a different kind of company. As a co-op, we put purpose before profits and act in the long-term interests of our members and community. We also believe that the climate crisis remains the largest existential threat to our members' ability to enjoy the outdoors and the survival of our co-op. In 2020, we committed to reducing our footprint by 55% by 2030. We believe an absolute reduction target grounded in science is essential, and that we must account for the cost of the carbon we emit today en route to 2030. We also know that we can accomplish more when we work together in pursuit of a common goal. We see Change Climate as a valuable convener and enabler in fighting the climate crisis, and we are thrilled to be a certified brand.
