## Sustainability story

In 2019 60% of the total global coffee production came from 12.5 million small-holder farmers, 44% of whom were living in poverty and 22% in extreme poverty. Almost 70 years earlier in 1950, Colombian coffee representative, Andres Uribe appeared before US congress, his request - an ‘equitable price’ for coffee. Philosopher George Santayana famously said, ‘Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.’ It makes one think - it’s almost as if the system were set up this way.

We link specialty arabicas to amazing NGOs & pledge 25% of our profits.

We believe in equitable supply chains that reward farmers.

We don’t rely on coffee certifications, just the facts on the ground.

We believe delicious coffees should always be traceable.

## Emissions (2024)

**Methodology:** saucybean's inventory uses spending data to estimate GHG emissions. saucybean attests to the accuracy of their data inputs and the Change Climate Project team reviews the submission for compliance with the Standard.

## Reduction plans

### Reduction action plans
- **Scope 3** — Redesign our 1kg brown paper gusset coffee packaging solution across our corporate client portfolio to implement a more circular approach, or failing that, reduce our usage of material required for storage. (source: Packaging, target: Q1 2024, completion: 100%)
- **Scope 3** — Reduce waste from our clients' use of our coffee beans through providing them opportunities to upcycle their coffee grounds in their office. (source: Upcycling, target: Q2 2024, completion: 75%)
- **Scope 3** — Purchasing raw materials - i.e. raw coffee beans, kraft packaging - in bulk as opposed to weekly shipments. This will help us reduce logistical emissions. (source: Upstream shipping, target: Q2 2024, completion: 75%)
- **Scope 3** — We will source raw materials closer to manufacturing to reduce miles traveled across our entire coffee supply chain. (source: Upstream shipping, target: Q4 2025, completion: 0%)
- **Scope 3** — Implement a low carbon sourcing/purchasing policy to prioritize carbon insetting at origin across our coffee bean supply chain. (source: Raw materials, target: Q4 2025, completion: 0%)
